Kedington News - The End - For Now.

The Editor For many years I've worked in the newsagents on the Westward deals estate (I delivered my first newspaper for them back in 1988). Since my return from a period spent in London I came to realise that the interest taken in Kedington by the local print media, the Haverhill Echo and the Haverhill Weekly, was some what lacking and diminishing by the month. Thus nearly two years ago now I bought the domain name KedingtonNews.co.uk. I created a site providing local news for the village and details of up coming events. Sadly I can no longer continue my work on the site so it is going to be mothballed.

I spoke of the lack of coverage for village goings on in the local print media. At the time I had no idea how lacking or to put it another way how much news there was to report on in the village. I've always avoided gossip pieces and I took a decision at the beginning that weddings, births and deaths were not my Domain, but still there has been one hell of a lot going on in this village of quite some magnitude and the paper has now absorbed all my spare time and unfortunately time when I need to be earning a living. I had at first intended that Kedington news might bring me in some money to cover my costs and some of the time I had to spend on it. Unfortunately the economics of the web don't really work on such a small scale and even the hosting costs have yet to be covered. As such I find I can no longer able to even come close to the kind of news coverage a village such as Kedington requires and have decided to close down the sites operations as the currently stand.

For the moment I will not be leaving the village completely deserted. For practicl reasons I will be renewing the domain name when time comes round next month so Kedington News will maintain a web presence for the time being. Although I can not keep up the detailed events section I had maintained I will be trying to keep up a list of events with fewer details but where applicable (and available) contact details for organisers so you can find out information for yourself I also Highly recommend ordering a regular copy of the Ketton Review which comes out four times a year and will keep you reasonably up to date with events and groups within the village. To order your copy delivered strait to your home please contact Celia Bradnam on 01440 704293 or Email pandcbradnam@talktalk.net.

As for the news there are still a few stories with their conclusions out standing, the allegation and suspension of the Parish Council and The Progress of the LDF to name but a couple I hope to post updates to these stories on the Kedington News YouTube Page.

It's been a fascinating year and a half and I can't deny mixed emotions ranging from relief to guilt at having to give up my work on this site. At the very least we have a record of what turned out to be a turbulent year and a half of village life that shaped the future of this village for generations to come.

It was a pleasure to serve.
