KedingtonNews.co.uk Fights Off Hackers

Some people trying to visit Kedington News recently may have had difficulties getting to the site. This could have been due to an attack by hackers which used .htaccess files to redirect anyone coming to the site from any one of a list of major search engines, sending visitors to a missing page on a website apparently interested in Indian regional autonomy. Anyone coming to the site by typing www.kedingtonNews.co.uk in to their address bar or using a bookmark were not redirected and would not have noticed a thing (this of course included KedingtonNews.co.uk staff who have the site bookmarked.

.htaccess files are never seen or downloaded by the viewers web browsers, instead it gives instructions to the web server on which the site is hosted. In this case the instruction was to redirect anyone coming in from a list of locations like popular search engines. This files have now been removed and other security measures take. Our web hosts have been asked to check our site to double check that no trace of the attack is left, but nothing was found on the server that would have caused any harm to site visitors.
