On Friday Night a fierce blaze destroyed a portable toilet left opposite The Watermill on Mill Road for the use of builders carrying out works on the river bank.The Intense flames also set fire to the telegraph pole the toilet was chained to and caused damage to nearby road signs. It left behind a large pool of melted plastic across the path and a strong chemical stink that was still detectable in the air on Saturday afternoon (even by our reporters poor sense of smell). Although the cause of the fire is believed to be arson none of the perpetrators were seen and as yet police have nothing to go on.
