As the heat slowly turned in to a warm evening residents of the grove bought out tables and chairs to placed them on the grass at the end of the tree lined col-de-sac opposite a large Gazebo that was to serve as a stage for the evening. As the sun headed for the horizon the sausages, burgers and various cuts of meat were laid out on the bar-b-cue and the band struck up.
The entertainment for the evening was local group Quaff Who started the night with a series of rock and pop covers before beginning the first of the nights barn dance sessions. Many of the Barton Grove residents proved themselves both experienced and competent dancers and later in the evening handled some of the more tricky dances with great style and minimal explanation from singer and dance caller Steve Watts. Indeed that band were pleasantly surprised at an unexpected outbreak of line dancing during a Depeche Mode cover.
The party went on late in to the night and was described as a "great evening" that had given residents of Barton Grove an excellent chance to meet each other and make friends including those who have only moved to the grove this year. A sociable way to begin the summer holiday season.
