The theft of exhaust systems has been on the rise across the country recently. This is thought to be due to the current high value of the rare earth elements that are used in components for catalytic converters. The price these has risen to new highs in recent times due to the imposition of controls on the export of rare earth elements by China who is one of the main sources for the worlds supply these materials, vital in the manufacture of among other things catalytic converters.
