Perfect Start To Kedington F.C. Season 29/9/10 |
Far from being the Goal feast of their first meeting both teams tightened up to create a game of few chances with neither team bothering the score card and Glemsford not even managing to bother Kedington goalie Lee Phillips (not that Alex McFarlane had much to do at the other end). With this result both teams remained sharing the honours at the top of the table.

Meanwhile elsewhere Glemsford managed to take another three points to keep level with Kedington, so when the boys welcomed Essex Arms they knew this would be a pivotal week as Glemsford had a cup match and Kedington could finally pull back it's game in hand and take a clear lead in the league. Alas it was not quite the lead Kedington had hoped for as Kedington found it's self fighting back from 2-1 down at half time to a 2-2 draw at the final whistle.
Kedington's lead was to be short lived as the next Saturday saw Kedington taking a week out and Glemsford recorded a further victory but still leaving Kedington with a game in hand.
Now two points behind Kedington knew they had to win on their visit to Pebmarsh if their game in hand was to give them a chance to take the lead. Pebmarsh however have a reputation for passionate play and giving no quarter. This soon told as Kedington went behind half way though the first half, but Kedington were in no mood to fold and instead pulled level on the cusp of half time. Through the second half the strong defence of the KFC side meant that although Pebmarsh saw a lot of the ball they were unable to make any use of it. Kedington on the other hand were making much better use of their time on the ball creating many opportunities one of which from Martyn Farrant allowed Lee Phillips to put Kedington in to a lead that Pebmarsh never looked like troubling.
The three points would have been very welcome to Kedington, but even more welcome was the news that the Gladiators had slipped up at home to Acton putting Kedington a point clear at the top to end the month and still the only undefeated team in the league.
Kedington may be on top but they may well be looking with some trepidation at their first match of the new month as they themselves must travel to face Acton. Acton may be only fourth in the league but they have two games in hand and a win next week would leave them less than two wins behind us. They have already proved themselves against Glemsford and will be keen to stake their claim for the top against the current league leaders. This will be Kedington's most important battle for November and it may well be close.
