Kedington FC In Close Four Way Battle For Top Spot.

Kedington FC started the year second in the Halstead League after slipping behind rivals Glemsford Gladiators at the close of 2010 but, came bursting back from the Christmas break holding solid against Punch 68 through the first half of their opening match and then erupting upon them in the second half to inflict a two-nil defeat on the visitors.
Glemsford found their game called off due to weather allowing Kedington to pull ahead in the league by a point with both teams on 11 games. Also, for the first time this season a third team had pushed it's way in to contention for the top spot with Acton also on 11 games now within three points of the top.

Kedington then suffered two weeks enforced leave from the league firstly to allow for their successful cup match against Belchamps but, secondly when rain saw their league visit to the Belchamps ground stopped by rain. This allowed rivals Glemsford Gladiators to pull back ahead.

For their final match of the month Pebmarsh came to Kedington having pulled up to one point behind KFC. Kedington's reaction to finding themselves in a head to head battle for league position was to say the least disappointing. Both teams had trouble getting the ball into the net. Kedington's defending was strong and they yet again showed their expertises in use of the off side trap. However a shot from the edge of the box found it's way through a ruck of players to the corner of the net giving Pebmarsh a one goal lead. Kedington failed to create any opportunities to get back and although Pebmarsh's attack remained equally ineffective their early goal still had them ahead. In the last minute of the match Kedington did finally create a shot at goal but were unable to put it away.

The loss sees Kedington not only lose their chance to get back to the top of the table but, slip to fourth place as Pebmarsh pull level with Glemsford at the top of the league and Acton draw level with Kedington but go ahead on goal difference. Kedington will start February with a chance to return to the top of the table against second from bottom Sporting 77 as there will be the only top four club to be playing next week. They will be needing every win they can get from now on.
